FAQ's

Is there a guarantee for the hut and if so, for how long does the guarantee last?

Our work is carried out by professional craftsmen, as with any components we purchase on your behlf standard manufacturers and suppliers warranty applies.  No warranty is applicapble to the workmanship or the construction of your hut or the components.

Can I tow the hut?

We use steel wheels.  Our mini hut and Tiny Home self-builds are all built without turning axels but can be moved forward and backward. Our Glamping / Accommodation self build kits do have a turning axel which can be towed on the iron wheels from location to location.

How is Dorset Shepherd Huts working to help the environment?

Dorset Shepherd Huts have been developing environmentally friendly concepts for our business since the very beginning.  We use oil free paints for our interior, and we use timber sourced from FSC sustainable forests. We ensure our huts have the very highest grade of insulation.   Where ever there is an environmentally friendly option with regards to resourcing we will choose this so long as the integrity of the hut is not compromised.  Our office recycles paper and buys sustainable stationary as we believe that every little helps.

Do I need Planning Permission for a Shepherds Hut?

A shepherd hut is a portable structure on wheels, and as such it does not typically need planning permission.  However, it is always advisable to check with your local planning office for confirmation as planning rules can differ from region to region. We have a planning consultant whom we are able to put you in contact with if it helps.

Do I need to prepare a concrete base for the hut?

Purchasing the steel wheels, we recommend a solid base be installed under each wheel which spreads the load and stops the wheels sinking into the ground or you could use rubber field matting which also does the job.

Will you deliver our new hut to us?

Absolutely.  We have a specialist team who will deliver your hut to your chosen location and will help you to locate it where you choose.  We have a standard price schedule which enables you to know in advance the costs associated with delivery, we can arrange for delivery throughout the UK and Globally.

How do I pay?

To reserve your slot in the build programme (once we have agreed your specifications) we ask for non refundable 50% of the total order value holding deposit at the time of the order. This enables us to purchase in advance your components before we commence work.

The balance is due three days prior to delivery.  Bank transfer is our preferred method of payment for the final balance, although we will accept a cheque with time to clear or cash.

How long will my shepherd hut self build kit take to build?

This will depend upon our current schedule and the complexity of the kit.  As a rule of thumb a build programme of between five and nine weeks would be normal.  For an accurate estimate please email to confirm.
